KANNAPOLIS
About 25 miles northeast of Charlotte on I-85, just north of Concord. This was the Cannon Mills company town, and downtown has been rebuilt around a new minor-league ballpark and the research campus on the old mill site. The city straddles two counties, so which side of the Cabarrus–Rowan line an address sits on changes the tax bill. Housing runs from mill-village houses near the core, through mid-century ranches, to newer subdivisions on the edges.
