LEGAL
FAIR HOUSING
STATEMENT
UPDATED — AUGUST 26, 2026
LiveInRE is committed to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the nation. Every client and every prospective client receives the same standard of service, the same access to properties and information, and the same advocacy — without exception.
What The Law Protects
The federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3601 et seq.) prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, financing and advertising of housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status.
Familial status covers households with children under 18 and people who are pregnant. HUD interprets discrimination "because of sex" to include sexual orientation and gender identity. Some cities and counties protect additional characteristics beyond this list.
Both states we serve mirror the same seven protections in their own law:
- North Carolina — race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicapping condition, familial status. State Fair Housing Act, N.C.G.S. Chapter 41A.
- Texas — race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status. Texas Fair Housing Act, Tex. Prop. Code Chapter 301.
How This Changes What We Actually Do
A commitment is only worth the practices behind it. These are standing rules in how LiveInRE describes property and advises clients:
- We describe a neighbourhood by its housing stock, era, terrain, commute and amenities — never by who lives there.
- We do not supply crime statistics or school ratings. Both are steering proxies under the Fair Housing Act, and both are available from public sources for your own research. We decline to provide them even when asked directly.
- Our marketing imagery shows architecture and streetscape and avoids identifiable people, because photographs can imply who a neighbourhood is "for".
- We will not act on any instruction — from a seller, landlord or buyer — to include or exclude people or areas on a protected basis. Such an instruction ends the engagement rather than shaping it.
- The same properties, financing options and negotiating effort are offered to every client in the same circumstances.
If You Believe You Have Been Discriminated Against
You may file a complaint at no cost, and you do not need a lawyer to do so. A complaint must generally be filed within one year of the alleged discriminatory act.
