DILWORTH

Dilworth was laid out in the 1890s as Charlotte's first streetcar suburb, and the streets still follow that plan: narrow lots, sidewalks under old oaks, and Craftsman bungalows, foursquares and Colonial Revival homes set close to the street. Larger houses line the boulevards near Latta Park; smaller bungalows fill the side streets. New construction exists, but it is infill on a lot that already had a house.

Much of Dilworth is a local historic district, and that changes what you can do after closing. Exterior changes, additions and demolition generally need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Charlotte Historic District Commission, so a buyer planning a second story or a new garage should check the district map and the design guidelines during due diligence. Age is the other inspection theme: crawl spaces, older wiring and original sewer laterals under mature trees all deserve a specific look.

Uptown is a short drive or bike ride north. The LYNX Blue Line runs along the western edge with stations at East/West Boulevard and Bland Street, and East Boulevard, Freedom Park and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway are inside the neighborhood.
