The Mission Valley follows the Rio Grande southeast from Ysleta through Socorro to San Elizario, along the old Mission Trail. The land was farmed long before it was subdivided, so parcels are larger and irregular, and older adobe and frame homes, manufactured homes and newer subdivisions can sit on the same road.

Rural parcels bring their own checklist. Confirm whether the property is on city water and sewer or on a well and septic system, and whether it carries irrigation rights and assessments from the El Paso County Water Improvement District. For a manufactured home, check its ownership record with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and whether it has been converted to real property, because that decides how it can be financed. Land that has had an agricultural tax valuation can owe rollback taxes if its use changes.

I-10 and Loop 375 connect the valley to the rest of the city, and Socorro and San Elizario are their own municipalities. The Ysleta, Socorro and San Elizario missions and the Rio Bosque Wetlands are within a short drive of each other.
